City Heights has come together once again as a community, with some 600 residents celebrating National Night Out on Aug. 4 at two local parks.
Nearly 250 community members attended the third annual Teralta Park Night Out, and more than 350 took part at the eighth annual Colina del Sol Park Night Out. Local officials attended the events, including City Councilwoman Marti Emerald, San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman, and Mid-City Police Capt. Chris McGrath.
Among the sponsors helping to make the celebrations possible were Sisters Helping Sisters, SHABACH! Ministries Inc, Frito-Lay, Northgate Gonzalez Markets, Food 4 Less, SAY San Diego, the County of San Diego, ProKids, Upward Mobility, Unity Tech, Glenda Gates, San Diego Park and Recreation, Home Depot, The New Children’s Museum, the USS Midway Museum, Rita’s Italian Ice, and Mr. G Entertainment.
Organizers of this year’s events included Copley-Price Family YMCA, Interfaith Housing, Global Institute for Public Strategies, STAR/PAL, the County of San Diego, the San Diego Police Department’s Mid-City Division, Mid-City CAN and more.
This year’s National Night Out theme was “Building Strong Relationships – Uniting for Safe Neighborhoods.”
