Financial aid workshop at Hoover High

High school seniors in City Heights are encouraged to attend a Feb. 22 workshop at Hoover High School that will offer free help in filling out federal financial aid forms for college. Eligible students also will get help with DREAM Act applications, and one attendee will be entered in a drawing for a $1,000 scholarship.

The workshop takes place from 9 a.m. to noon. Hoover High is at 1035 E. Madison Ave. in City Heights. You do not have to be a Hoover High student to attend.

School officials urge students to come equipped with a number of documents, including a Social Security card or number and a driver’s license or driver’s license number. Other documentation needed to fill out applications for federal financial aid include: a parent or guardian’s federal income tax records from 2012 or 2013; a FAFSA personal identification number, available at www.pin.ed.gov; bank account and investment records; and a list of colleges you are interested in attending. If you are not a citizen, bring an alien registration card.

For DREAM Act applications, students should come with a parent or guardian and bring: federal tax and wage information for 2012 or 2013; bank records and business records; and a list of colleges you are interested in attending.

The event is hosted by the California Student Opportunity and Access Program of San Diego. Further information is available at http://sandiegocalsoap.com/star/events.php. Those who plan to attend should pre-register online at www.sandiegocalsoap.com.
